March 2003 News

March is a full month, with five Monday meeting nights scheduled March 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31!

Our weekly meetings start off with Merit Badge and Achievement Work on March 3rd.

Other weekly meetings in March will include:
  • The Cumberland Fire Department Explorers will come talk to us about Fire Safety.
  • We'll have Disaster Training, learning to respond to help someone in trouble.
  • We're conducting a food drive for the Cumberland Food Pantry.
  • We'll go to the Rock Gym (date TBD based on availability stay tuned)
    Other Upcoming Events

    We'll enjoy a Bradbury Mountain hike on Sunday, March 23rd, complete with a barbecue.

    On April 12th & 13th, LL Bean will be offering half day Orienteering Sessions open only to Boy Scouts and Webelo Scouts. The number of slots available are limited, and the cost is $7 per scout. If you are interested, please sign up at the Monday meeting. The slots will be filled on a first-come-first-served basis.


    Looking Further Ahead:
    April 19     Canoe trip on the Royal River, with the possibility of a local overnight TBD.
    May 2-4 Acadia Trip, being coordinated by Frank Lavoie, including bike riding, hiking and rock climbing.
    May 30-June 1 Gulf Hagas Trip, being coordinated by Wendy Wren, including an overnight and a hike around the area.
    June 28 White Water Rafting on the Dead River, being coordinated by Ralph Hutchinson.

    And, of course, Boy Scout Camp!
    At Camp Hinds again, August 3-8.
    The fee is $220 for the week with an early bird discount of $20 if paid before the end of May. It is an excellent opportunity to earn merit badges and have a lot of fun.

    A word to adults the Troop is seeking an adult who would be able to attend the whole week of summer camp. We are also in need of parents who can be present during any portion of that week, as we'll need at least three adults in attendance at all times. Again, the dates are August 3-8. It's a load of fun, and you'll have other adults to help support you. Please speak with Frank Lavoie, our Committee Chair, or any of the committee members if you may be able to assist.
