February 2002 News

Lions Meeting - a small group of our older scouts will be attending our local Lions Club Meeting March 11. The Lions support us every year with an annual contribution; we are sharing some of our past projects with them so they may see what we do.

Klondike Derby For those of you that are new to the troop, the Klondike Derby is a competition of patrols from the Boy Scout troops in the Casco Bay District, held at Camp Hinds in Raymond. This year's Derby is on February 9th, with the theme "Survivor".
The different challenges test knowledge of Scout skills such as camping,
cooking, first aid, knot tying, fire-starting and compass reading. Points
are also awarded for leadership, teamwork and Scout spirit. Last year our
patrol took 4th place.
This year we have two teams of six and seven Scouts pulling dog sleds.
We need one to three more boys to round out the teams. If you are at all
interested, contact Ralph Hutchinson (829-5470) or email (

NEW COMMITTEE CHAIR Frank Lavoie has volunteered to be committee chair. Thank you!

TRIVIA TIP OF THE MONTH --- DID YOU KNOW? that community service counts as service hours for scouts? If you go to the soup kitchen with your family, or teach Sunday School, or help out at the food pantry, etc. You need a note from the adult in charge and check with one of our adult leaders to make sure it counts.
